Song: Evanescence - Bring Me To Life

Woo!

Verisign apparently have recently upgraded to Sun hardware and Solaris 10. For those who don't know, Verisign are the kind folks who own the .com domain name. Used to be on Intel processors and Linux. This is good.

To be fair, I never did like Sun's catchphrase thing, "we put the dot in dot-com". There's so many bloody signs at work with that on... I always preferred the equally as flaunted, "The network is the computer".

But I would have never appreciated that before using a SunRay. So you're all just going have to take my word on it.

This is all for now. Someone buy my Chuck.

Does anyone want to buy a CD of Sum 41's most recent album, "Chuck"? I have a spare one, brand new, never been listened to or even taken out the case.

This delight of an album can be yours for £5. Comment if you want it, or let me know if you someone who might.

So today I bought some new RAM for pooter. I now have 512MB... Yes that's right, five *hundred* and twelve. It's astonishing. This means I'm now up to about the same level as everyone else was three years ago...

I only wanted it to be able to stupid Firefox.

This is all for now... Just wanted to publically attack Firefox.

*Edit* Blah, not only did I just moan about Firefox... But now I've found a problem with Linux that's pissing me off (technically glibc for those who care). The *BSDs seem to do what I want. I'm reminded of a quote...

"The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from."

weyhey... Got an e-mail about music lessons at work.

Finally something here I want to make use of! Didn't really fancy karate or yoga... But guitar lessons on site, during work hours sounds like something I'd go for :D

Staff here are so spoilt...

*Edit* I've booked a free taster session on 3rd April, at 10am. Downstairs in Solaris house. Woo yeah!

Sunday 19th March 2006

Today's been a looong day. I'm way too tired to tell the full story, but basically I've went with Rob to Camberly, Hook, Bournmouth, Weymouth, Hook, Farnham, home. These travels began at about 9:30am and finished at about 5pm or so. Then we hung about at his place for a bit, then we came back to mine, then out to the pub for dinner, then to Blockbusters, then back here to watch a film, and now the day is over... and I'm knackered.

I'm soo tired now that I can't even remember half of what I was going to write about. It's a bit strange really. I can't really see straight, and I'm wobbling about a bit in my chair. Perhaps I need some sleep.

Song: Fightstar - Wake Up

For those who don't know, I am a hugely paranoid person when it comes to my home. I always think there's someone outside waiting to break in; when I'm the last to bed and hear creaks in the house I always fear there's a burglar; and generally when I'm home alone during the day I hear things and am convinced it's someone trying to get into the house thinking there's no one in. So now on with the story...

I was watching this TV programme earlier, where they take a family and discuss the security of their home and stuff. The family have a bit of a talk about how safe they think their house is. This particular family gave their house 8 out of 10. This was however, after acknowledging that there are ladders by the side of the house and they always leave windows open. The wife/mum was absolutely insistant that having dogs in the house would be their saviour though if anything went wrong. They had two dogs, and she said the bigger one will start making noise when the smaller one does, and it'll be the smaller one that starts barking once someone enters the house. This woman really was convinced that this dog would be the thing that saved her house if anyone got in, but was still fairly confident that it wouldn't need to come to that.

So then they fill the house with cameras, take the family out and bring in a burglar. This burglar is an ex convict who now breaks into houses for legitimate reasons like this. Apparently it's his busineess... Fair enough. So anyway... He goes round the back of the house and the dog starts barking. He then goes off, grabs a ladder that the family knew they'd left out, and jumped up onto a roof from one part of the house. It was a porch or something, so then he was able to jump up and get an arm into a small window. Look here. I expect a lot of you have gone out and left the small window open, thinking that no one can get in there. Well in this case the guy was able to reach the handle of one of the bigger windows through it, despite hanging by only his armpit.

So anyway... Once inside the house he went straight down to the kitchen, opened the fridge, pulled out some ham, and suddenly he was the dog's new best friend. The woman, who was watching this on TV, really couldn't believe it. What she stupidly believed to be the world's most inpenetrable security system was circumvented with ham. So anyway... The guy then begun going round the house and stole something like £13,000 in a matter of minutes. He put all their stuff into boxes he found in their house, and he took it all home in a car that was in the driveway. Just to add insult to injury, he took the dog too.

I just couldn't believe how effortless everything was for him. Especially getting in that window at the start! If I was ever paranoid before... Now I'll quite possibly go mental.

My mum came home while it was on (I paniced when I hear the door!) and then we were talking about this house, she then said she knew of one big problem with it... and let the suspense build. Eventually she told me and actually it wasn't a big suprise to me. Basically our patio door can be lifted out from the outside, so, yes... (and where better to announce this than on the internet?).

Incidently, we also have two ladders in the back garden, my brother leaves his small window open all the time, and we have a fence at the back so no one driving by could see.

Clearly, I'm not *that* paranoid since I was prepared to write all that on here (though I'm not saying where I live!), but I expect I'll be a bit scared once I'm in bed tonight. ;)

Song: The Corrs - Humdrum

Weeee, I woke up today in a really shit mood. But, I decided to not mope, but instead thought I could try and occupy my mind with something. I'd been wanting to do this for a while now, but kept putting it off.

So, everybody now leave a comment to this entry, and you'll see what I've done. I really pray this works, and it has only been tested in Firefox so far.

Make special note to admire how the number of comments left so far changes when your new comment arrives!

Now, where do I send my application for Google?

Song: Brand New - The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot

Today is a good day. I checked slashdot before work, and saw that there's a live CD with the XGL stuff on it (yet another area where Linux and Mac beat Windows to something). If you don't know what I'm on about, don't worry, you probably wont care.

I also saw that Google have bought Writely (web based word processor). Look out Bill, they could be after your Office market next. Your stupid dinosaur head adverts all over the London Underground wont help either.

Then I get a message from Andrea about Taking Back Sunday coming over here again... We're off to see them in Southampton with Mary and Tara. Good stuff!

I'm only really writing this as procrastination... I'll get back to work now.

Song: Placebo - Slave To The Wage

I don't want to bring up all the debates and arguments again... But for those who were at all interested in the Charlie leaving Busted thing, read this. It's an article of decent length, and he is suprisingly honest about how things were. It also explains how/why he ended up in Busted, which was something that I think a lot of people weren't too sure about.

"When I was at school, I formed a band called Spleen, and I loved that band. At the same time, I met my girlfriend, my brother was at school with me. But all in one year, Spleen's drummer got expelled, so no more band, and my girlfriend and brother left school. I started to hate school, decided to leave. Then one day, my music teacher said he'd seen this ad - guitarist wanted for pop-punk style band. I thought I might as well do it. I wanted to play music. I didn't think about where it would go or what it would do."

I've done several updates in the last few days... keep reading down!

Song: Sum 41 - No Reason

I'm £270 poorer now. But, I have this (check out Caroline Corr's legs, and South Park me and Charlotte). The guy in the shop was really cool and helpful, and not too pushy annoying salesman like. He also said I could grab a bunch of picks, so finally I've branched away from the one black, medium Gibson one that I've had since the start. Admire (on this one, check out the old skool phones, juggling balls and screwdriver that does everything on every computer!).

Saturday 4th March 2006

This is going to be brief, as I'm tired. I've just got back from seeing Yellowcard with Mary and Tara. A very good show indeed. Support band were a bit... rubbish, but that's okay. At least there was only one of them.

Anyway, a history lesson for you all. When I left school, I mainly listened to metal... This was, Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit (before they became very shit), and the like. Also towards the end of school, I got to know one of those girl things that were quite new to me at the time. Consequently, I became what I now know to be called "emo". So I then started moaning on at this friend of mine online about stuff, and he's like, "Here, check out this song!". And so he sent me this file of questionable legality. It was a song called "Something Of Value", by a band called Yellowcard. I grew to like this very much, and went back to this chap asking for more music like this. Not just acoustic stuff, but stuff that's very moany about the opposite sex. And that's how it all began...

Maybe another day you'll hear the story of how lesbianism led me to The Used.

So anyway, I then got all of the "One For The Kids" album of Yellowcard's, and unfortunately never really gave it a fair chance. Fast forward what I realised today is actually quite a lot of years... and I see Yellowcard on TV with a song called Ocean Avenue. "Ooh I remember when they were nobodies", the music snob inside me said. Fast forward a few more years and I see Yellowcard are back on TV with "Lights And Sounds". This time however, I didn't get all snobbish, I just got instantly hooked. Liked it very much, and saw it a few more times over time and was happy. Last week ish, I think, Mary asked if I'd like to go see them as she had a spare ticket... So going I was!

Anyway, yes... They were very good I felt, just a shame I didn't know more of their songs. I never really gave "One For The Kids" the chance it deserved, and never bothered to get "Ocean Avenue" at all. Now though, I'm very sure all three albums will be given the chance the deserve.

Oh, and a paragraph for the violin dude. First of all, a lot of the time I thought that his violin sounded like pan pipes, but that might just be my lack of exposure to the instrment (My entire exposure is basically The Corrs). But anyway... I wasn't sure what to expect from this guy as there isn't *that* much violining (uhm?) in all their songs. It turned out pretty much as I expected. He spent most of the time just dancing about on stage. He did very regularly go to the front of the stage to shake and slap hands with fans at the front. He also looked quite funny when he was playing his instrument most of the time. I'm sorry sir, but no matter how much you spread your legs and arch your back to look cool, you are still playing a violin, and can't be heard in most songs. So anyway, I decided his role in the band is basically as follows. a) Public relations. If those fans' hands don't get slapped, they might go home less happy. b) Comic relief. When the songs get a bit too much for us emo kids, we can always take a look at him jumping and bending about, and smile.
